Shimano Spheros 4000 SW XG

The Shimano Spheros SW 4000XG is a compact yet powerful spinning reel for the active saltwater angler. Weighing just 280 grams, this reel combines a comfortable balance with the sturdiness needed for fishing from the beach, pier heads, breakwaters, rocky shores, and a boat.

The fast 6.2:1 XG gear ratio retrieves a whopping 99 cm of line per crank. This allows you to quickly maintain contact with your lure, take up excess line, and actively fish with plugs, shads, and metal jigs. This makes the Spheros SW 4000XG particularly well-suited for species such as sea bass, pollock, saithe, and mackerel.

Sturdy HAGANE construction

The aluminum HAGANE Body provides a rigid base that barely deforms during drilling. As a result, the force you apply to the crank is efficiently transferred to the internal mechanism.

The cold-forged HAGANE Gear ensures durability and smooth, long-lasting operation. Thanks to X-SHIP, the pinion is supported on both sides, ensuring that the gears remain precisely aligned even under load. This provides extra torque when a strong fish puts up a fight.

Designed for intensive use at the beach

The Shimano Spheros SW 4000XG is equipped with CoreProtect. This water-repellent protection helps prevent water from reaching the reel’s key moving parts, without unnecessarily hindering its smooth operation.

The sealed S A-RB bearings also reduce the risk of salt or sand affecting the bearings’ performance. As a result, this compact Spheros is better suited for use at the beach than a traditional spinning reel.

Powerful Cross Carbon Slip

The durable Cross Carbon Drag provides smooth drag performance and a maximum drag force of 11 kg. This gives you plenty of reserve to quickly bring a strong fish under control around obstacles, rocks, or in strong currents.

Despite its high drag capacity, the reel—weighing 280 grams—remains comfortable on lighter and medium-weight lure rods.

Smooth Casting with a Braided Line

The AR-C spool has a specially shaped spool rim that allows the line to release in a controlled manner. This helps you make long casts and reduces the likelihood of line problems.

Thanks to the G Free Body design, the reel’s center of gravity is positioned closer to the rod and the angler’s hand. This provides better balance and reduces fatigue during long lure fishing sessions.
